Mardyke Climbing Wall
Mardyke Arena is UCC’s flagship sports‑centre, and its climbing wall is designed for everyone — from beginners to advanced climbers.
🍽 Food & Drink — There is a café in the Arena‑foyer which serves snacks and refreshments.
🅿 Parking — Parking available on the Mardyke UCC sports campus.
Gym / Climbing
- Vertical Wall: 25 ft high with 4 climbing lines; grades from around French 5a to 7a.
- Overhang: 9 overhanging lines, graded ~5c to 7b.
- Bouldering Wall: ~30 bouldering “problems” at various grades (Fr 5a → 7a).
- Equipment Provided: Harnesses, helmets, belay devices, carabiners, chalk bags etc.
- Competency Test: Experienced climbers may be asked to pass a “competency test” to climb independently.
- NICAS Courses: They run NICAS level 1–3 for kids & adults.
Membership / Pricing
Pay-as-you-go / Day Session
- Climbing entry (competent climbers): €12 adults, €10 children
- Taster Session (1 hour): €15 adults / €12 children (includes equipment)
- Shoe hire in taster: €2.00
Membership / Pass Options
- Annual Climbing Wall Membership: €240 (public)
- (Note: UCC students / staff use student card for access to climbing wall via their membership.)
- Belay Lesson: €20 adults / €12 children / UCC Student €5 (from Dec 2025)
- 1‑on‑1 Coaching (Climbing): €50 per hour for 2 people.

- Monday: 17:00 – 19:00 climbing wall.
- Tuesday: 12:00 – 22:00 climbing wall.
- Wednesday: 13:00 – 19:00 climbing wall.
- Thursday: 15:00 – 19:00 climbing wall.
- Friday: Closed for climbing wall.
- Saturday: 12:00 – 19:00 climbing wall.
- Sunday: 13:00 – 19:00 climbing wall.
